Private Plates In Gibraltar

In November 2024 the government of Gibraltar started selling off previously withheld personalised & private number plates. On the new website ( personalisedplates.gov.gi ), users can browse premium plates, auction plates and even “create your own”. All plates available have never previously been issued. All Gibraltar number plates start with the letter “G” followed by one to five characters. There are quite a few names and words to be made starting “G”. To ensure clarity and avoid confusion (similar to UK plates), certain letters—such as “I,” “O,” “Q,” “S,” and “Z”—have been excluded from the available options. 

The Government sold off over £1,300,000 worth of plates during the first week of the sale and now plans to launch an auction system in early 2025. Notable “premium plates” such as “A” (so “G A”) which has a reserve of £50,000, ‘007’ with a reserve price set at £25,000, ‘ONE’  with a reserve of £15,000, ‘V1P’ with the reserve of £10,000, and ‘T4X1’ reserve £5,000.

Other premium plates which were still forsale online included ‘VR00M’, ‘C00L’, ‘M4GIC’, ‘FL45H’, ‘L3G4L’, ‘J0K3R’, ‘R4C3R’ and ‘EL1T3’ all with the same price of £5,000 each. Of course all of the above have the prefix letter “G” so “G C00L”
