DVLA Personalised Registrations released over 100,000 new M Prefix number plates sending the trade and public into a buying frenzy. Almost 3,500 M prefix numbers were sold on day 1 alone.
The new numbers were in the range M21, 23-29, 121, 123 & 321 followed by 3 letters. In 1994 when the M prefix number plates were first made available, only numbers 1-20 were released with higher numbers remaining as double digits and numbers in the 10's, such as 22, 30, 33, 40,44, etc.
Numbers such as M31 GAN (Megan), M21 KES (Mikes), M24 RKS (Marks) were just a few examples of what were popular as well as many popular names and initials such as JMC, MJS, SJM to name a few. The number 21 remains very popular also, with many customers looking to mark the special occasion of a son or daughter's 21st birthday. Private number plates have become an ideal gift for young drivers of this age, with many M21 *** registrations being in high demand.
